Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin
Light from the television illuminates the face in much the same manner as the highlighting of icons.
I wish I could recall what blogger had referenced Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, and been able give credit to his site. Petrov-Vodkin's portrait of Anna Akhmatova had such an iconic feel that I wanted to know more about his background. It came as no surprise to read he was first introduced to painting by two iconographers.
Iconography is a lense through which you view the world around you. It gives a deeper meaning to everything that you see and always points back to the Hound of Heaven.
