I nodded when Father Duddleswell groused, "And I thought this was going to be one day without thorns!" Few of us will ever have our faith tested as did St. Catherine of Alexandria--I wince at the thought of having to bear the smallest of thorns.
When thorns are removed and another eventually takes it place, I forget my resolution to embrace the unpleasant, as readily as I do the pleasant, and sputter right along with Father D, "And I thought this was going to be one day without thorns!"
